Last night after work I sat down with a glass of wine and searched through Netflix. I'm defiantly the kind of person that watches the same things over again and I don't watch many movies. As I was searching I saw the movie Melancholia and I remember hearing such good things about it. And I really like Kirsten Dunst as an actress and I thought the picture cover for this movie was beautiful. So I sat back and started to watch it.
The movie is broken down into two parts, and after I watched the whole thing I kind of wondered what the first part was even for. The film is about a planet, that has been hiding behind the Sun, is supposed to hit the Earth. Ultimately, the movie is focused around these two sisters.
Part One, Justine, starts off with a happy couple on their way to their wedding reception. They seemed so happy while they were kissing and laughing. Then as the movie goes on it just gets weird and hard to understand. Kirsten's character obviously has depression and to me seemed a little bipolar. Her new husband, played by Alexander Skarsgard, seems like he is so in love with her. He seems so grateful to have her and to be married and it seems so great in the beginning. But as the movie goes on you can tell she is not in love with him and it never explained why she would marry him if she didn't love him. After the whole reception is over the groom just leaves. They don't fight and you never understand why and he is never mentioned in the rest of the movie. Which bothered me because it leaves you wondering. But, I guess, when you think about the whole message of the movie it doesn't really matter.
The second part, Claire, is mostly about Justine's sister and her family. How Claire's husband, played by Kiefer Sutherland, doesn't understand nor can stand Justine. It starts out as Justine coming to stay with them at their house. You would think that there is something wrong with Justine because she comes and can barely walk and looks so ill. She complains when her sister tries to bathe her and complains that the food doesn't taste right to her. Later, Claire's little boy comes in and tells Justine about the planet that is going to hit the Earth. The scene right after that Justine is walking around and doesn't seem to have anything wrong with her. To me, this seemed like a way of explaining how Justine is handling the planet hitting Earth differently than her sister. She seems to be happy and a little better. The director has said that this movie is about how people with depression handles situations like this differently because they already expect the worst. Which I guess, this movie gets the point across when you think about it that way.
The picture itself was amazingly beautiful and the music was so calming and wonderful. All and all, even though I didn't understand every part and it kept you wondering about parts that didn't even matter, this movie was pretty good. When you think about the whole message you start to understand the movie a lot more. But like I said, maybe not every part. It isn't a light movie, if you want a movie that will get you thinking and wondering, this is a good one. I will say that Kirsten Dunst did a wonderful job and is beautiful in this film. But I will admit, I had to really think about the message of this movie and kind of sleep on it. After you think about all of the scenes and what happened, that's when you sort of understand it. So, maybe after reading this and then watching it, it will be easier to understand and get through.

Summer Songs
Summer is finally here and it's time to have parties and blast your stereos up! I am so picky about what's on my party playlist and I hate when people change it or mess with it. I picked some of my favorite songs from a long list on my party playlist. The first song and probably my favorite is O.V.E.R You by Daniel Bedingfield. One of my favorites off his newer album Stop the Traffik that came out earlier this year. You all might remember him from his popular songs Gotta Get Thru This and If Your Not the One. I had the biggest crush on him in middle school and my school girl crush has came back!
Next is Cassie Steele's song I Want You. A good mix of r&b and rock. (a good make out song). Then there is Matt and Kim, the indie-dance YouTube and MySpace sensation from Brooklynn. I came across them when browsing for songs on ITunes and I fell in love with the song Block after Block.
Next is Chris Rene with his song Trouble. Such a good song and sounds alot like his song Young Homie. Then there is the OMG Girlz with the song Where the Boys At. The song is so cute and catchy and a great one to dance to with your crush! And last but not least, Neon Hitch, one of my new favorite artists. Her song Get Over U is one of new favorites. I admit that I've had this on my party playlist for a while now. It's not a new song and I kind of like that, I don't listen to the same song for too long. I get bored of songs quickly. That's a reason I don't listen to the radio too much. But anyways, those were six of my favorites off my personal summer party playlist! Enjoy! And tell me what you think!!
Love & Other Disasters
The other day at work I heard the song Moon River from one of the best films ever, Breakfast at Tiffany's. Watching it I kept thinking of the movie Love and Other Disasters. Which made me miss Brittany Murphy.
Breakfast at Tiffany's and Love and Other Disasters are two of my favorite films of all time. If you haven't seen the two films you are truly missing out. Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of the most beloved films of all time and defiantly one of Audrey Hepburn's most memorable characters. Love and Other Disasters kind of revolves around Breakfast at Tiffany's as one of Brittany Murphy's character's favorite movie. Her character, Jacks, works at a fashion magazine and lives with her friend Peter, who is gay, and meets a beautiful Argentinian man named Paolo. The movie is all about finding your one true love even if it's not as romantic as the movies.
Both of these movies are so wonderful! I strongly reccomend these films to watch while having a good girls night in! Also a good film for a girls night, speaking of Brittany Murphy, is Clueless! Another classic in my eyes! There is no doubt about it that Bittany Murphy is one of my favorite actresses.
I'm pretty sure you can find both Breakfast at Tiffany's and Love and Other Disasters on Netflix. Watch them and tell me what you think!

Fashion Diary
I am off to work! I try and keep my work clothes fun yet professional. I mixed sexy with preppy! Leather leggings aren't just for clubbing, mixed right they can do whatever you want them to do. I added a preppy shirt and some flats (for practicality) and some cluster earrings and bracelet. What do you think?

My Big Bang Theory
Personally bangs look aweful on me...but I will forever try them! Everyone once and a while, after I watch Breakfast at Tiffany's, I will get the urge to go to the salon and ask for bangs but I have to control myself. I also used to think that bangs were something reserved for little girls, but I am seeing more and more women try them. I am especially in love with Krysten Ritter's, from Dont Trust the B- in apartment 23, Audrey Hepburn inspired bangs. Reese witherspoon has said she tried bangs to cover up a scar from a recent accident that she has had. And of course Zooey Deschanel's signature bangs have inspired a wave of people to cut their bangs. Even though I personally won't be cutting mine, I am starting to take a liking to the idea of bangs. Plus, it's a good idea if your looking for a change that's not too drastic. But I also think it is more of a fall/winter style. There is nothing worse than hair in your face while you are sweating up a storm during the 90 degree weather.

A Fantastic Read
Ladies, put down your self help books and read this. This book will teach you everything you need to know! Now, we would all be lying if we said we didn't admire the French. We try to look like them, dress like them, and even love like them. The author interviews many French women and men to find their secrets about love and life.
I wish all American women would read this book. This book explains why you won't find most French women in gyms, or why you won't see a French woman in tennis shoes, and why the men appreciate them so much more.
I promise you won't be disappointed! Find it on your Nook or Kindle.

Summer Style Crush
The days of summer are officially here! One person you can turn to for a great summer style inspiration is Jessica Alba. Although I'm not a big fan of her movies, I am a big fan of her clothes! Her style is so upbeat, colorful, and hip. I also love the fact that she has two daughters, an acting career, and a new company (the Honest Company), and she still has time to look stunning! There's not alot of moms walking around looking as hot as her, no mom jeans or sweatpants for her. The pretty sun dresses are light and breezy, bright colorful jeans, sexy leather moto jackets for your nightlife, and light scarfs that will accessorize your outfit without warming you up too much. Another thing you can notice hitting it big this summer are bright colorful wedges and platforms. So moms and all women out there, let this summer be your brightest and most stylish!

The Rum Diary
So today I went out to lunch with one of my girl friends and all she could talk about was how Johnny Depp was single now. Now, I like Mr. Depp as an actor, I do not like the Disney movies that he is in while acting drunk...they made way too many of them for me to keep up with. I honestly don't understand why he keeps agreeing to do those movies. But anyways, I remember watching a preview of another movie where he acts drunk, but this one seemed a little more my taste.
The first couple of minutes, to be honest, are kind of boring. I kept finding myself gazing at my cell phone and listening to the elegant music rather than paying attention to the movie. I kept waiting for something exciting to happen. There are a lot of glitz and glamor and beautiful people and clothes in this movie and I will give them that. But, I think the most entertaining part of the film was Johnny Depp bouncing on Michael Rispoli's lap while driving his tiny car into a wall.
If you haven't seen this movie, and thought it was going to be something funny and witty like I did, you are a little mistaken. I do admit, it had its parts...but to me this is a great movie to put on mute and play in the background while your throwing a 60's inspired cocktail party. Which is something I might try and put together tonight! So I have very little time to throw something together, so until later my darlings!

Drive
As this is my first post, and all, I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Brandy and I love all things beautiful and expensive. Now I don't like to watch a lot of movies but, as it is a tuesday and I have nothing special planned, I thought I would snuggle up on my couch with a glass of wine and watch a movie. As I was scrolling netflix I found myself drawn to a puppy dog face on the screen. Now I love Ryan Gosling as much as the next girl but I would rather look at his picture than listen to him talk. And I'd have to say, the first couple minutes were pretty good. Suspense right out of the gate. One of the great things about the first couple minutes is he didn't talk. Just rave music and him...just the way I like it. I mean he starts of mummbling some words but it was fine. And I'll tell you what, this was actually an alright movie. Suspensful and interesting. Ryan Gosling didn't say much, and that was the way I liked it! The picture itself was pretty and the music was just right. Remind me to download the album! There was romance, blood, and boobs. Maybe not a womans movie but definatly a man's movie. If your looking for a good date movie that isn't pressuring the guy to get married and have your babies, this is a perfect one. It will get the guys testostrone pumping and Ryan Gosling will make your kitty purrrr.
Now....the one glass of wine turned into a bottle so I'm about to jump into bed and call it a night!
